February 6, 2025- Several school districts across East Tennessee made the decision to close schools due to illness in the past week, according to Knoxville’s WATE 6 News. Despite flu cases starting to come down from their peak nationally, per the Knox County Health Department, flu cases are still affecting staffing and student attendance as waves of the illness move through local communities.
Lenoir City and Loudon County Schools are both closed on Tuesday and Wednesday, and extra measures are being taken to stop the spread. Custodial staff disinfected the closed school buildings with a goal of stopping the spread of the flu, emphasizing high contact areas such as doorknobs, according to WATE 6 News.
