January 29, 2025- For his contributions to advancing collaboration between healthcare value analysis professionals and physician champions, BJ McCluskey, MBA, CVAHP, FAHVAP, FACHDM, Assistant Vice President of Strategic Sourcing and Contracting from McLeod Health, was awarded the 2024 AHVAP Presidential Citation Award.
This prestigious award is presented to individuals who have demonstrated extraordinary leadership and commitment to improving healthcare through the integration of value analysis and clinical expertise.
“BJ McCluskey’s tireless dedication to fostering stronger relationships between healthcare value analysis professionals and physician champions has been instrumental in driving impactful, evidence-based decision-making within healthcare organizations,” AHVAP said. “His leadership has not only enhanced communication and collaboration but has also ensured that value analysis initiatives are aligned with clinical priorities, ultimately leading to better patient outcomes and more cost-effective care.”
McCluskey, who has been involved with AHVAP since 2017 and is currently on the board, said the association has done a good job of setting expectations for the role of value analysis professionals and their involvement in getting industry partners to the table.
“Probably the most important thing for the vendor/industry partner to get engaged with supply chain and value analysis to understand the process at whatever organization they’re at,” McCluskey said. “This is where it gets hard because every organization has a little different flavor to value analysis, and they may have a different workflow on how the vendors need to be involved. it’s not a standard across the industry, so they’re going to have to stay close with each of their organizations to understand what the expectations are and how they can support that assessment for the organization that they’re working with.
“I can tell you we value our industry partners here at McLeod Health,” he continued. “We have to rely on them to put together good assessments, and we have to rely on them from education and clinical monitoring standpoints. They’re deeply involved throughout the process; it just may look a little different depending on the organization.”
AHVAP’s focus and vision is to be the preeminent professional association and resource for healthcare value analysis professionals, leaders, and stakeholders in the healthcare continuum. The association is doing that through the efforts of examining and defining the profession and then putting out best practices through position statements and educational offerings.
