Massachusetts hospitals collectively saw more than $2 billion in net losses in early 2020 as the coronavirus spread to the U.S., according to Massachusetts Center for Health Information and Analysis. The median margin for acute hospitals was -2.7% during the first quarter of 2020, a 6.9% decrease from the same period in 2019. Baystate Health reported $87.9 million in net losses and Boston Children’s Hospitals and its subsidiaries reported a shortfall of $383.5 million.
