March 14, 2025- Ascension recognized a critical need to revamp nurse preceptor training and launched a comprehensive, evidence-based overhaul of past training models to directly address feedback from nurses new to precepting, who identified a greater need for mentorship and onboarding, instead of just the transition to bedside clinical practice. As of January, more than 3,200 nurses have completed the training program to become certified preceptors. Nurse preceptors play a pivotal role in these efforts, by supporting new graduates in their journey from student to professional nurse, a demographic of the healthcare workforce that can experience high turnover in their first year.
