What initially drew Kimberly Shamblin into the healthcare field was the opportunity to work in an industry that makes a difference. Following this passion, she started her professional journey in an administrative role at IMCO Inc., which evolved over the course of 20 years into opportunities in marketing and eventually contract management.
Shamblin, now Contracts Manager at IMCO, says she is proud of the relationships she’s built over the years, and of how she’s continued to grow professionally throughout her career.
“Starting in an administrative position and advancing into contract management has given me a broad perspective on our industry and allowed me to contribute in meaningful ways to IMCO’s success,” she said. “Many of the vendor and distributor partners I’ve worked with have become trusted colleagues and friends.”
Shamblin’s current role entails overseeing the company’s vendor contract portfolio, including GPO agreements, distributor rebate programs and vendor pricing updates. She also maintains the vendor database and serves as a resource for members and vendor partners. “Every day brings a new challenge, which is one of the things I enjoy most about my role.”
Shamblin said that the ability to solve problems and develop trusted relationships with IMCO’s vendors and members also provides a great sense of purpose in her role.
“I love finding ways to simplify complex information and help our distributors maximize the value of IMCO’s resources and partnerships,” said Shamblin. “I’m also passionate about supporting independent distributors. They play a critical role in serving healthcare facilities across the country, and it’s rewarding to know that my work helps strengthen their ability to compete and grow.”
Shamblin similarly considers herself fortunate to work with her team at IMCO. “The years of experience and breadth of knowledge on our team are invaluable. We support one another, share ideas and work through challenges together, which makes even the busiest days rewarding.”
Although she does not provide direct patient care, Shamblin said that her personal impact on healthcare has been something she’s come to appreciate over time.
“Whether it’s helping secure competitive pricing, ensuring distributors have access to important contracts, or communicating critical product updates, I know those efforts ultimately help healthcare providers obtain the supplies they need to care for patients,” said Shamblin. “While my role is behind the scenes, every improvement we make in the supply chain helps support the people delivering care on the front lines.”
