June 11, 2026- Sentara Health is taking a major step into the future of cancer care through a new joint venture with BAMF Health that will establish Virginia’s first comprehensive, vertically integrated theranostics program. The partnership combines advanced molecular imaging, radiopharmaceutical production, targeted molecular therapies and clinical research under one coordinated program.
Theranostics—an emerging field of precision medicine—uses specialized imaging to identify cancer cells and then delivers targeted radiopharmaceutical treatments designed to attack those cells while minimizing damage to healthy tissue. Unlike traditional chemotherapy, the approach focuses on the unique molecular characteristics of a patient’s disease, creating highly personalized treatment plans.
The initiative reflects growing industry interest in precision oncology and targeted therapies. While the initial focus will be cancer treatment, researchers are also exploring theranostic applications for neurological disorders, cardiovascular disease and other complex conditions. Clinical trials are expected to play a significant role in expanding future treatment options.
What makes the venture particularly notable is its vertically integrated model. BAMF Health specializes in bringing radiopharmaceutical manufacturing, imaging, treatment and research together in a single program, helping accelerate patient access to emerging therapies. For Sentara, the investment positions the health system at the forefront of a rapidly evolving area of medicine and could expand access to cutting-edge cancer care across Virginia and the surrounding region.
