February 9, 2026 – UPMC Washington has launched local lung and kidney transplant evaluation services, and patients in Washington, Greene and nearby communities now have a more convenient path to transplant care. These additions make it possible for people to complete their evaluation and follow-up care close to home, with transplant surgeries performed at UPMC Presbyterian and UPMC Montefiore in Pittsburgh.
For many people living with serious lung or kidney disease, the travel required for transplant evaluation can be overwhelming. Work schedules, transportation challenges, family responsibilities and the demands of managing a chronic illness often make long trips difficult. Having evaluation and follow‑up care available in Washington reduces those barriers and keeps people connected to the support systems that matter most.
