Dave Adams , New Market Veterans, brings healthcare supply chain solutions to veterans.
Dave Adams, a U.S. Naval Officer Veteran, aviator, and supply chain optimization expert, is using his Naval and supply chain experience to engage veterans and ensure their healthcare needs are met.
After serving for 12 years with the U.S. Navy and medically retiring in 1996, Adams went on to build supply chain networks for Pepsi-Cola, Frito-Lay and McKesson, among other companies; he has also built several supply chain and technology optimization companies. The foundation for his success was laid in a Master’s Degree in Optimization where, according to Adams, “I learned the type of math that moves everything in our world.”
New Market Veterans LLC (NMV), founded by Adams in 2007, is a realization of both his dedication to the U.S. Navy and his responsibilities and experience in designing healthcare supply chain solutions, particularly in the med-surg space. NMV informs customers of what they have, engages them in understanding what they need, and works with them to deliver on that need. NMV is a certified Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Business (SDVOB) – a program created by the U.S. Federal Government to help wounded and disabled veterans compete in the government marketplace by providing SDVOBs with purchasing preference. The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and other procuring agencies were granted authority to conduct set-aside and sole-source procurements with SDVOBs – a unique “Veterans First” approach specific to VA contracting. But, according to Adams, the application process is so complex that it isn’t accessible to those for whom it is intended, and it only benefits one veteran per SDVOB.
Recognizing the deep connection veterans have with one another, Adams has used the SDVOB program and his position to commit NMV to hiring only veterans and disabled veterans. He ensures his SDVOB partners are committed to hiring them as well. He recruits two types of veterans: those with ambulatory disabilities, whom he can train to sell products from a catalog, and more seriously wounded veterans who can be trained to work inside NMV or with NMV partners, doing such jobs as customer service calls or final QA of products.
Adams did not create NMV with the intent of making a lot of money. Rather, NMV’s singular vision and mission has been to protect veterans and disabled veterans. “It’s our responsibility to take care of the veterans coming back into civilian life after serving our country,” he says.
