October 18, 2024- Florida has faced two significant natural disasters in recent weeks, hit first on September 26 by Hurricane Helene and then just two weeks later by Hurricane Milton on October 9. Florida hospitals were prepared, though, and are mostly back to normal, according to Florida Hospital Association president and CEO Mary Mayhew and news outlet Healthcare Brew.
Hospitals are now in the process of returning patients who were transferred away from the coast for the storm, to the over 400 healthcare facilities that were evacuated in wake of Hurricane Milton. Hospitals across the state are largely returning to normal operations, and the quick turnaround is likely possible because of critical investments into healthcare preparedness plans and flood mitigation efforts in advance, according to Healthcare Brew.
