Across Miami-Dade County, hospitals reported 1,748 coronavirus patients in beds, including 363 in ICUs and 190 on ventilators. All of those numbers nearly doubled from two weeks ago. The pace of new patient admissions at Baptist Health South Florida, which has six hospitals in Miami-Dade County, two in Monroe County and three in Palm Beach County, is testing the healthcare system’s limits. Baptist Health has 618 patients with COVID-19 at the healthcare system’s 11 hospitals, including 111 patients in the ICUs. The system has also discharged more than 2,100 COVID-19 patients since the pandemic began. Miami-Dade’s Jackson Health System, Florida’s largest public hospital, has faced staffing demands as its three hospitals have more than tripled their number of COVID-19 patients since Memorial Day weekend.
