MDSI announces new regional distribution manager
MDSI (Lawrenceville, Ga.) is pleased to announce that Tyler Moss was named regional distribution manager for the southeastern U.S. In this role he will manage some of MDSI’s distribution products, including Repertoire Magazine, EOL, and RepConnect at the distribution sales representative level. He will be based in Atlanta and cover North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, and Tennessee. RPS Diagnostics names Robert Gregg as SVP of clinical and regulatory affairs
RPS Diagnostics (Sarasota, Fla.) announced that Robert Gregg joined the company as SVP of clinical and regulatory affairs. Gregg has more than 30 years of relevant experience and remarkable achievements in the medical device and diagnostics industries. Prior to joining RPS Diagnostics, Gregg led Regulatory and Quality Affairs at Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics, Leica Biosystems, and OraSure Technologies, Inc. While at OraSure, Gregg earned the first ever over-the-counter status designation for a rapid HIV text. Gregg also served as Vice President of Corporate Regulatory Affairs and Quality Systems at PerkinElmer, Inc.
AMA to triple number of medical schools
American Medical Association (Chicago, Ill.) announced it will provide $1.5 million over the next three years for up to 20 additional medical schools to join the Accelerating Change in Medical Education Consortium, an initiative to reshape medical education. The consortium, established on 2013, provides innovative curriculum models to medical students better prepare for delivering care in the rapidly evolving health care landscape.
Abbott to acquire Tendyne Holdings and Cephea Valve Technologies
Abbott (Abbott Park, Ill.) entered into agreements to purchase two companies. Abbott will acquire Tendyne Holdings Inc (Roseville, Minn.) a private medical device company focused on developing minimally invasive mitral valve replacement therapies. Abbott will acquire the equity of Tendyne that it does not already own for $225 million upfront, for a total transaction value of $250 million, plus potential future payments tied to regulatory milestones. Completion of the Tendyne acquisition is subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to close in Q3 2015. In a separate transaction, Abbott provided capital and secured an option to purchase Cephea Valve Technologies (Santa Cruz, Calif.), a private company working to develop a catheter-based mitral valve replacement therapy. Financial terms of that transaction were not disclosed. The transactions will broaden Abbott’s structural heart technologies.
Cardinal Health to acquire OutcomesMTM
Cardinal Health (Dublin, Ohio) plans to acquire OutcomesMTM (Des Moines, Iowa). OutcomesMTM is a privately owned company that contracts with more than 40 health plans throughout the U.S. to deliver personalized Medication Therapy Management (MTM) services to more than 5.5 million patients through a network of more than 50,000 local chain and independent retail pharmacies. OutcomesMTM services will be part of Cardinal Health’s Pharmaceutical segment. Its more than 60 employees, including its senior management team, will transition to Cardinal Health following the acquisition. Financial details of the acquisition will not be disclosed.
BD opens Advanced Diabetes Care facility in Andover, MA
BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) opened its Advanced Diabetes Care facility in Andover, Massachusetts. The facility will serve as the new headquarters for BD’s Advanced Diabetes Care platform and will house research and development and manufacturing of novel solutions for Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. Approximately 100 associates will be located in the 75,000-square-foot facility.
HSCA names Todd Ebert as new president and CEO
The Healthcare Supply Chain Association (HSCA) named Todd Ebert as its president and CEO effective today. Ebert previously served as president and CEO for Amerinet Inc (St Louis, Mo.) since 2007. Ebert is a former chair of HSCA and is the immediate past chair of the Healthcare Industry Supply Chain Institute (HISCI) (Washington, DC). As president, Ebert succeeds Curtis Rooney, who resigned from the company and will accept an executive position at SmithBucklin (Chicago, Ill.), an association management company.
