July 14, 2026- Geisinger is continuing the rollout of security screenings at its hospital entrances, with Geisinger Jersey Shore Hospital and Geisinger Bloomsburg Hospital scheduled to begin public entrance screenings on July 13 as part of the health system’s broader effort to improve safety for patients, visitors and staff.
The initiative follows the successful implementation of weapons screening technology at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre, Geisinger Shamokin Area Community Hospital and Geisinger Medical Center Muncy earlier this year. Additional locations, including Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Geisinger Lewistown Hospital and Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton, are expected to add screenings later in 2026.
According to Geisinger, the screening program has already prevented hundreds of weapons, including firearms and knives, from entering its hospitals. “We have, unfortunately, seen an increase of violent action against our staff, and this is one of many tools we use to make sure we have a safe environment for everyone who comes to Geisinger,” said Sean McGinley, associate vice president of police and security operations.
