September 11, 2026- A proposed transaction that would bring Maimonides Health into the NYC Health + Hospitals system has cleared another key regulatory hurdle following a unanimous vote by a New York state advisory committee.
The Establishment and Project Review Committee of the New York State Public Health and Health Planning Council approved the proposal Aug. 27. The transaction now moves to the full Council, which is scheduled to consider the proposal Sept. 17.
The partnership is backed by more than $2.2 billion in New York state grant funding over five years aimed at strengthening safety-net health care in Brooklyn. If approved, Maimonides would join the municipal health system while maintaining its clinical services and community presence.
The funding includes more than $500 million for Maimonides to implement the Epic electronic health record system, upgrade labor and delivery rooms and make other capital improvements. The transaction also would allow Maimonides to receive higher Medicaid reimbursement rates through its participation in the public health system.
NYC Health + Hospitals President and CEO Mitchell Katz, MD, said the organizations share a commitment to accessible, high-quality care for diverse communities. Maimonides President and CEO Ken Gibbs said the latest vote brings the organization closer to securing the financial support needed to maintain and expand care.
Patient care is expected to continue uninterrupted during the transition, while the proposed partnership proceeds through additional regulatory and legal approvals.
