July 24, 2020 – Beaumont Health (Royal Oak, MI) announced last month its nonbinding letter of intent to potentially merge with Advocate Aurora. It would not be a sale, but a merger of assets of the hospital systems into one $17 billion entity under the control of a single board of directors. The board would include equal representation from the legacy Beaumont system and the formerly independent Advocate and Aurora systems.
Beaumont is the largest healthcare system in Michigan and unrest is spreading among Beaumont Health doctors.
A no-confidence petition is now circulating among some doctors who are upset with the leadership of Beaumont CEO John Fox and CMO David Wood Jr. and the prospect of the merger with Advocate Aurora Health.
