Reflections on Super Bowl LII…and sales
By Bob Miller
What a terrific game. Over 1,000 yards total offense. Brady had 500 yards of offense. Three touchdown passes. And lost. Impossible, right? Wrong! Nick Foles had over 373 yards of offense and three touchdowns. He WON! Shall I say the Eagles won. Fifty-eight years, 20,859 days. A 41-33 victory that had a missed extra point, missed field goal, trick plays, and only one punt in the game. Neither team could stop the other until the end.
What I noticed most in this game was the quiet confidence that Nick Foles showed as well as the whole team. They thought they could win and they did. It wasn’t easy but they just kept grinding it out. The team is what was the difference. “Individuals can make a difference, but a team can make a miracle.” That’s what the Eagles credo is. That is what the Eagles did. With a backup quarterback and a backup left tackle, the team pulled together to make the difference.
When you look back on your career at those times you have consistently done a good job, think about all the help that you got to make your job easier. Customer service, the shipping department, and the leadership from the top. You can’t do it alone.
Leadership is the key. Is your plan specific? Is it measurable? Do you have the support you need? That is what the Eagles had… leadership from the top. A great coach who called an outstanding game and had an assertive game plan, which instilled in his players trust. It’s awesome when you have a good man at the top. Pederson went for it on 4th down during the season more than any other coach. In fact, he had the most 4th down conversions — 20.
It seemed as if everyone was on the same page. The defense, the offense — everyone believed. That’s what really makes the difference. They had a RELATIONSHIP with one another. They did things together outside of work and created trust with one another. When it meant the most, they came together to make a difference.
Everyone does a better job when there is a trust within the organization. You must do your job, but you must treat people with respect and offer confidence to your peers. That’s what truly makes an outstanding experience for all.
