This May, Motorola released the Moto E, the latest in the Moto series of phones. Moto E is Motorola’s smallest and cheapest model to date, costing only $130. Motorola hopes this affordable smartphone will appeal to those remaining non-smartphone users.
There are other positive aspects to the Moto E in addition to price. For example, this new model runs the latest version of Android. It has a larger screen than Apple’s iPhone 5c and has a “sharp picture,”according to Troy Wolverton with Mercury News.
However, is the cost of the phone worth the cost of the loss of features? The phone lacks a front camera, losing the ability to video chat with other smartphone users. In addition, its rear-camera only has 5-megapixal resolution, diminishing the quality of a photo.
The Moto E can only access 3G networks. As a result, webpages and other data loads much slower. Even when the phone is on Wi-Fi, the load time isn’t as fast other smartphones. Also, only 2.2 gigabytes are available, meaning if you would have to buy an external memory card to hold more data.
The Moto E is appropriate for smartphone beginners. Otherwise, the initial low cost of the phone isn’t worth its lack of features.
